Plans unveiled for a multi-million pound refurbishment of an iconic Leeds Hotel
Plans have been unveiled for a multi-million-pound refurbishment of one of Leeds’ most iconic Hotels - 42 The Calls. The refurbishment designed by Den Architecture will take the landmark hotel back to the top, as one of Leeds’ most premier destinations.
The 37 bedroom hotel will include a new Italian Cafe Bar, a restaurant overlooking the river, public champagne bar, and a members-only champagne bar - complete with a stunning copper and glass external lift. A chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce and Riva boat are just two of the stunning additions guests of the hotel will have access to.
A Part of history
During the design of the hotel, Den Architecture has worked closely alongside Yorkshire based interior designers Nanu Soda to create a bold and iconic design both inside and out, that highlights and accentuates the vast history of the Grade II listed building.
Used as a corn mill during the industrial revolution, and transformed into a 4 star hotel in 1991, 42 The Calls is deeply ingrained within the history of Leeds. Due to this both Den Architecture and Nanu Soda have taken great care in maintaining the distinct and unique feel of the building while offering guests a modern and contemporary five star experience.
Modern Historic Renovation
Inspired by the traditional protruding riverside grain lifts of the Victorian era, the newly proposed external glass lift has strong links with an architectural feature that helped put Leeds on the map as one of the worlds leading Industrial cities. The use of copper cladding adds to the industrial feel the building once had, and reflects the tones of deep red brick that surround it.
The charming south facade extension has been maintained, and houses one of the 37 completely refurbished bedrooms that 42 The Calls has to offer it’s guests. High end materials and finishes throughout complement existing brickwork and century old timber beams.

The scheme aims to act as the catalyst for rejuvenation in the area, and will bring 78 jobs down to the banks of the River Aire.
